I agree with you totally on the parenting entry. So many times the father is the more competent parent and the mother has to do almost nothing and she is rewarded with fully custody. I've even heard of cases where she takes advantage of the money sent for so-called "child support" and uses it on herself. It has gotten a lot better here in New York with the laws (I know this because my husband is a lawyer and this is one of his specialties) but there is still improvement needed. I think that during those custody hearings, both people should just be seen as parents, regardless of gender. And the judge needs to objectively look at the backgrounds (not to mention the stability) of both parents' situations. The father should be recognized for the fact that he's been responsible for the child thus far and I think a good lawyer would have brought up the fact that the mother is jeopardizing the child's health and defying the recommendation of a doctor. That's not a good mother in my book!
